I did this drawing in the Rio Chama valley.  It is of one of the large red sandstone cliffs.  I put the image down with ink and added the color back at my studio.

I did this drawing on location in ink.  I was on top of a mesa close to my home in Abiquiu looking west.  I added the pastel back at the studio.

I did this drawing on location.  I am in the shade.  The only place that I can find relief from the extreme heat and ruthless sun.  The Sandgre de Cristo mountain range is snow capped and a small sage grows on the rocks before me.  The shadows move with the light.  I shoe a fly away from my face, as it is trying to get a drink from the salty sweat running down my skin.

This is a drawing I did on location of the Pedernal.  I began with pencil and added acrylic paint and pastel to it in the studio.  It is a view from the property of the Ghost Ranch.  The abstract geometric forms are desert plants that I represented this way, as receivers and transmitters of the profound light play upon the high desert mesa.
